The Utah High School State Track and Field Championships concluded today in Provo. It was an exciting day of competition in every classification. The weather was bi-polar as it was pouring rain one minute and sunny and hot the next. The athletes seemed more focused on winning a state championship than they were about the weather. The team titles on both the Girls and Boys side went to Davis High School as the Darts made it a three-peat. The individual events were exciting as well. Here is our event-by-event breakdown of the action.
Syracuse Highschool hosted the Davis District Champioinship meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the warming weather and great conditions led to 66 state qualifying marks. One of the highlights of the meet came with Jacopo Spano of Woods Cross breaking the meet record in the 400m Dash with a time of 49.36. Karrie Pead of Viewmont also set a meet record in the Girls 400m Dash with a time of 58.15. Shea Martinez set a meet and stadium record in the girls 1600m.
Friday’s events saw a lot of great competition. With finals in a few of the field events and more prelims in most other events, here we will break down which Utah athletes moved on to the finals.
