Sarah Ballard of Lehi swept the 5A sprint events this year at the 2023 Utah State Track & Field Championships. Surprisingly, the senior opted out of competing in the girls long jump, an event she also led the state in. Focused on getting the sprint triple, Ballard ran strategic races in all three events and extended herself across three very different races which also resulted in her taking home her first 400m state title in her career. Ballard's time of 55.03 not only led all other athletes in her class but was also the fastest mark to end the season.
