Andie Aagard of Lone Peak has been one of this season's most pleasant surprises as the unknown junior entered her first-ever year of high school cross country and has established herself as one of the nation's top runners. Aagard started the season with an 18:59 5000 and just recently ran 16:51 at the Team Southwest Regional race. Andie was the top performing junior from the Utah State XC Championships, where she won the 6A title in a time of 17:26. Her runner-up was fellow junior Avalon Mecham of American Fork, who finished in 17:47. Mecham also competed at the Team Regional race and placed sixth overall which was good enough to punch her ticket to nationals.
