Avalon Mecham of American Fork had her best career finish at this year State XC Championships when she placed second overall in the 6A classification and ran a season-best of 17:30 for 5000m. Finishing behind Mecham in the State race was junior Hailey Low of Layton, who was the only other returner to break 18 minutes on that 5000m course. Shelby Jensen of Westlake came so close to being the third runner under 18 but ended up 6th overall with a time of 18:01. Mecham led her team to a win at the southwest regional meet last weekend, and now she and her squad will be gearing up to compete with the best at the Garmin RunningLane National meet on Dec 4th.
