The landscape of the 4A classification is about to undergo significant changes, with elite talent from the 5A classification flooding in at the start of the next school year. Austin Westfall of Orem has the fastest 5000m time of the athletes that will be in the 4A classification next year. He ran 15:11.20 at the Utah State XC Championships, where he placed 3rd overall in the 5A classification. Westfall was going to be the top returner in that race but with the recent announcement of the new alignment for 2023, Austin will be competing in the 4A classification next season. Challenging Westfall will be cross-town rival Kyle Steadman of Mountain View, who will also be making the move to 4A with his team next year. James Butterfield of Snow Canyon was the projected top returner for this classification until the realignment. He should still be in contention for the title but will have some new opponents on the starting line.
