How did you first get started running?

The high school xc coach & my current coach Courtney Meldrum ran at BYU in college with my aunt so she knew me and was always trying to get me to run and I shut her down. I was a soccer girl playing both on club and high school teams. In my junior year fall of 2020, I had a frustrating high school soccer experience and Courtney didn't give up and convinced me to come try a cross country race. I did very well at that race and kept training and ended up placing at state a few weeks later. I  started to enjoy running a few months later and later in January of 2021 decided to quit soccer and focus on running.

Favorite Workout?
I love 400's on the track during track season. But I honestly enjoy a lot of the workouts we do!

Least Favorite Workout?
Hills all day!! We have one 800 hill repeat we do.... not my favorite.

What was the greatest obstacle you've had to overcome in your high school career?
Honestly this cross country season I had some super low lows in races both mentally and physically. Learning to break this barrier made me such a stronger runner!

How do you prepare yourself mentally and physically for a race?
Mental and physical preparation go hand in hand for me. I've made good eating and sleeping habits that in turn help me feel able to push myself in workouts and be consistent in training to then prepare me for races. I try to have a game plan for each race and visualize myself performing that way beforehand.

Any Pre Race superstitions?
I need to eat the same dinner the night before a race, a subway sandwich 2 1/2 hours before my race, and be satisfied with my hair.

Most memorable race?
I actually broke my back beginning of February 2021 and ended up having ya limited three meet track season. I was very set on qualifying for state in the mile my first meet back having never run a high school track meet in my life! My coach Courtney told me to not be upset if I didn't qualify for my first race with only encouraged me more. I ended up getting the qualifying mark in that race and celebrating with my coaches was the best feeling!

What is the best piece of advice you have received from either a coach or teammate?
The faster you run the faster it's over is something I do tell myself a lot. But to be on the hunt during the race, you're not the only one hurting so go get it done!

Where are you at on college decisions?
I am so excited to be attending BYU in the fall of 2022!

What are the top 3 goals you wish to accomplish before you graduate?
- Break my school's mile record of 15 years!
- Maintain my 4.0 GPA
- Just enjoy the rest of high school!
