Senior Spotlight: Davin Thompson (Skyridge)

How did you first get started running?
I played Soccer and decided to join the cross country team in 7th grade to help with my speed
for soccer. I hated running at first, but after two years I quit soccer and decided to completely
focus on cross country and track.

Favorite Workout?
Negative split long runs and 3x2mile repeats
I love long workouts, the slow churning pain just hits different

Least Favorite Workout?
7x(3 min pickup @2 mile pace, 1 min rest, 1 min pickup @mile pace)
This workout is just straight up death

What was the greatest obstacle you've had to overcome in your high school career?
Being injured for more than 3 months my junior year cross country season during the summer
and into the season was really hard. It's really hard to sit on a bike for months while watching all
your friends and teammates out there doing what they love and all you want is to be out there
with them.

How do you prepare yourself mentally and physically for a race?
I don't do anything different from my training to my races, I like to keep things consistently at my
best so I can't really do anything extra leading up to a race. Doing something special right
before my race isn't going to help if I'm not consistent with my training beforehand. I try to stay
consistent in all the little things like sleep, nutrition, rolling out, doing core, and writing in my
running journal throughout the season and just trust that I'll be at my best on race day.

Any Pre Race superstitions?
Not really, but I usually keep the same routine for my races with what I eat before and when and
what I wear.

Most memorable race?
State 2020. Getting the W with the boys was amazing after all our hard work.
Also Footlocker west regionals 2019. I was so stoked with this race after battling injury all
season and very low mileage to finally see results.

What is the best piece of advice you have received from either a coach or teammate?

Nothing specific from my coaches or teammates even though they are the best, but a quote that
helped me a lot this XC season is "everyday has the potential to be the best day of your life" that
just motivates me to have a positive attitude and make the best out of everyday

Where are you at on college decisions?
