State of the Action:

In this race, we were looking forward to what would be the best individual race of the day. Alek Parsons and Garek Bielaczyc are ranked 6th/7th in the nation. Throw in the top runners from Timpanogos and you have the best 4 runners of any race at State this year. Bielaczyc led through the early stages, but the pack was all together. Parsons, Handley, and Benson were all right on his heels. Parsons bested Bielazyc at the Region by one second, and he proved the stronger athlete again at State. He would pull away from the group to finish under 15 minutes in 14:58 for the 2nd fastest overall time of the day. Coming through the finish, Bielaczyc would finish 3rd, sandwiched in between the Timpanogos duo of Will Handley and Joe Benson. Another important finish to take notice of was Springville's Grant Gardner. He was the Top underclassmen & frosh finisher in the 4A race 1t 15:40. Adding to that performance he was Top-20 overall and the fastest freshmen of the meet by nearly a minute! Keep an eye on Gardner!

There was no question who the favorites were. US #3 Timpanogos would win the 4A title, and post the fastest 1-5 average of the entire meet (15:37). The battle behind for 2nd was a close one. Olympus proved to run slightly better with their final scorers, but they couldn't overcome the low points that Ogden gained with Parsons and Garrett Barton.
