Coming into the race, Courtney Waymenttold us she was feel confident and ready to win a state championship. That may have been an understatement. Not only did she win her first Utah State Title, but she blew away a talented field by nearly 30 seconds and torched the course in 17:24! Now standing as the fastest time at the Utah State Meet. The US #18 ranked senior from Davis certainly made a case for her to move up the rankings next week! Weber athletes finished 2nd in both the boys & girls race. Mckenna Lee improved on her 2014 18:24 by over 30 seconds to finish 2nd a few seconds ahead of Bingham's Whitney Rich.
This season it has been clear that American Fork and Davis are two of the stronger girls teams in the nation. Davis packs a solid 1-2 punch with their front runners Wayment and Aubrey Argyle, who were both Top-5 and under 18 minutes. Ultimately they couldn't match the pack from US #6 American Fork. Only 14 seconds separated the 5 scorers from American Fork. Sara Musselman was the top finisher for them in 18:11. After #2 runner Sophie Baird crossed the line in 18:19, the remaining Top-5 would all be through 7 seconds later. Highlighting the importance of every runner in this sport, #6 Katie Cornell displaced the 3rd,4th,and 5th runners from Davis.
