Utah XC Weekend Recap: Season Now in Full Swing

In the biggest meet on southern Utah's calendar to date, it was a cool Saturday morning as runners from as far as Beaver to St. George gathered at Bicentennial park for an early season race.  In the girl's race, there was a great pack consisting of some of the participating team's top talent.  As the race progressed, it came down to Grand County's Cadence Kasprick and Pine View's Brooklyn Hill.  Kasprick was able to hold off Hill and was the only female runner to dip under 19 minutes for the three-mile course, while Hill just trailed three seconds behind in 19:00.  The Pine View girls were the overall champions of the meet, placing their top five in the top ten overall with a 19:42 team average.

For the boy's race, Trey Despain picked up his second consecutive win of the season by winning the SUU Invite in 15:37.37.  Despain was able to hold off the pressure that was being applied from Snow Canyon's Finn Lee, who was second in 15:44.  The Snow Canyon boys took home the win with a final team score of 45 points and had a team average of 16:16 for the three-mile course.  An interesting note to consider was the fact that Desert Hills ran two of their top runners, Kaden Mckinlay and Christopher Boyer, in the JV race, who, of course, went 1-2 to help lead Desert Hill's JV Squad to the win.
