Boys Recap: American Fork Rolls Bingham

For a month I had planned on attending this meet that would feature US#10 American Fork battling against top teams in a fun meet. I found out this week that my 5 year old son had a soccer game at the exact same time as the meet. I made the right decision as my little superstar ran away from the competition, led his team to victory and scored 11 goals! 11 goals by one kid has to be some sort of record, Amazing! Now, back to the meet.

The results are a bit sketchy, but from a conversation with AF Coach Timo Mostert, American Fork rolled Bingham like Muhammed Ali rolled George Foreman. Running away with the meet and a meet record low 29 team points the Cavemen placed 1, 2, 4, 7, 15th. The touted Bingham team who ran a fast Tooele Invite 3-mile top runner could only manage 14th. The course is a brutal one, with death defying hills at an altitude of 5600 feet. Located at the Olympic Skiing Venue athletes traversed "THE" most difficult course in the State of Utah. To put this courses difficulty into perspective, early in the season at the 5A Pre-Region Meet AF#1 runner Austin West ran a 15:42 over a very hilly Cottonwood Complex 5K. To to contrary at Soldiers Hollow, West went through mile 1 in 5:42. Take a bite out of that!

We released this week the Coach of the Week. In this article we featured Pleasant Grove new head coach Chandler Goodwin. It would seem we were right about his program as his team finished 2nd inthe meet with 67 points. This finish catapults his boys team to #3 in the state overall rankings. Stay tuned as results are on their way.
