Well it’s here, the Arcadia Invitational. For years now, the Arcadia Invitational in Southern California has been the place where Utah athletes and runners across the country go to set records. From personal records, all time state leaders, and National records, the Arcadia invitational is the place to be. This year will be no different. With over 70 of the top athletes from Utah making the trip down to the Los Angeles, it should be a great weekend for the local athletes.
While there shorter events aren’t benefitted as much by the low altitude, the distance runners will be making the most of the higher air density. All athletes will be benefitted by the elite level of competition. Below I have listed some of the key athletes to watch, as well as a list of as many of the Utah entries as we found on the heat sheets.
Ben Saarel. Earlier this season at the pineview invite Ben ran the second fastest 3200 ever run by a Utah athlete in Utah. He did it mostly solo, and he will likely be looking for some help breaking the all time record for a Utah athlete. He will have some great competition including some coming from Utah Sophomore star Conner Mantz. Mantz has surprised even himself this season and could fight the elusive 9 minute barrier. Also in the heat will be Jake Heslington and Chuk Mitchell.
Lauren Baxter. Lauren has dominated all season long. This weekend her talent will be put to the test as the California competition is fierce in the sprints. Lauren will be running the 200 and the 400.
Girls 1600m. With over 13 Utah natives in the race, the fastest heat will feature Locals who have battled all season long. Davis star Shea Martinez finished 4th in the nation in the indoor 800m. she will step it up to the 1600m and see how fast she really can go. Sarah Feeny of Ogden hasn’t seen much of anything besides the top of the podium this season and she will be battling for a big PR this weekend. Summer Harper of Orem is in the same boat as Feeny, always putting herself in the mix for the win, she will be greatly benefitted by the depth of the field. Keep an eye on her as she has a great racing mentality that will benefit her greatly this weekend. Last but certainly not least, Emily Rich of Bingham has run 4:58 this year and is nationally ranked. This will be a great opportunity to lower her PR.
400m
The Riverton boys will be making the trek down to L.A. and expect them to shine. With a very stacked 4x400 they could challenge state records and individually Brandon Walker, Clay Lambourne, and Michael Bluth with all run the open 400. Also in the open 400 will be Trevor Leavitt of Davis who can roll with the best of them.
Cam Dopp of Woods Cross is a very talented hurdler and sprinter. He is entered in the 110h and 300h and he will be looking to show how fast he really is.
There are so many more great Utah athletes that we can’t even come close to cover all of them. But below is a list of all the Utah entries.
