UHSTCA Invitational Meet Preview, Day 1

Meet Preview: Friday, Day 1.

Friday afternoon the UHSTCA invitational Kicks off at the Kearns Ice Oval.
Here is a breakdown of each event and what you can expect to see.
4:00 pm- Boys' Shot Put (Kearns High School)
The boys shot will be a battle between the current top 3 in the state… miller Crawford, (riverton) blake kvarfordt (desert hills) and ben bracken (davis) are all slated to compete. They have the top marks in the state so far and actually are all only separated by 2.25 inches. With a  team title a reality for bracken look for him to try to climb a few spots to gain more points, where its really so close any of these boys can win it.

4:00 pm- Girls' Long Jump (ice oval)
in the girls long jump Bethani Talbot of copper hills holds the states top mark by over half a foot. She will either need to scratch or someone else will need to perform very well to compete with her.

4:00 pm- Boys' High Jump (Kearns Rec Center)
In the Boys High Jump most of the top names in the state aren't listed on the entry list so it leaves the door pretty much wide open for Tyler Kendell of Layton. He is currently ranked 2nd in the state behind Anthony Gregory, and will look to pick up the extra 2 inches between them.

4:00 pm- Boys'/Girls' Pole Vault (ice oval)
The boys pole vault will look to be dominated by davis and bingham as each have 2 athletes in the top 5. Mitch Kalinin of Bingham sits alone at the top with a season best of 13-0.
In the Girls pole vault, not many marks have been posted so far this year, and so it really is wide open. Ali Morris of Syracuse has a season best of 9-0.25 and should be able to hold off the competition.

5:30 pm- Girls' Shot Put (Kearns High School)
in the girls shot put, Kassie Nagel of morgan is a very talented athlete who’s season best of 42-5.75 puts her on the milesplit first team elite. She should be able to take the title with room to spare.  Freida Fetuu of riverton is a pretty solid hope for 2nd.

5:30 pm- Girls' High Jump (Kearns Rec Center)
Mitzi Munns of box Elder has a season best of 5'6" and is 1st team Milesplit for the US. Nicole Laws and Marrisa Apiah are both just 2 inches back and both made 2nd Team All Milesplit so far and should push for a win. alos look for Muir of union and Larson of Millard to post good marks.

5:30 pm- Boys' Long Jump (ice oval)
In the boys long jump Stetson sartor of herriman has the current best mark this year followed by only 2 inches by jace skidmore of Syracuse. No one has the boys LJ in the bag, look for some tight competition in this one.

6:30 pm- Boys' Triple Jump
6:30 pm- Girls' Triple Jump
Both boys and Girls Triple Jump are events that aren't contested at every meet, so look for some  of the High and Long Jumpers to try their hand at the triple. It should be interesting.

For the Running Events.

4:00 1600 M Run
In the boys race Preston Johnson holds the top time in the state witha 4:20.78 converted from his mile at Boise State last weekend. Heslington won at BYU and outkicked Elijah Armstrong of Pocatello, the same runner who won at Boise State. Look for Johnson, and Heslington to battle it out with a lot of contenders coming in from Skylar Williams, and Jayden Asay. The big turns on this track will make for very fast times, look for the winners to be under 4:20 and even as low as 4:15. They have it in them.

The Girls 1600m Run will be just as exciting as the Boys, with 6 of the top 10 runners in the state so far showing up. Ellie Child of Davis leads the state with a 5:08, nearly 8 seconds ahead of 2nd place. look for sarah feeny and summer harper to post much better marks though, as both of them posted their current season bests in pretty solo efforts.

400 M Dash
The Boys 400m dash looks to be the Riverton Show again, as their top 3 are all entered to run. Michael Bluth is 1st team all Milesplit and look for him to dip under that 50 second mark on a very fast track at the oval. lambourne and Walker both also have the ability to be under 50 so it should be interesting to see if anyone can brake up the riverton sweep. Blake Ellis of Lone Peak and Trevor Leavitt are both close enough that it should be fun.

4 X 800 M Relay
Not many teams have run a 4x800 this Year. Davis boys and girls both posted stellar times last weekend, but it looks as thought they will not be running thier A-teams for the meet this weekend. they still have the depth to win, but look for a lot of teams staying in their as long as they can.
