This week was a week full of excitement with the small schools showing their dominance, a few familiar names returning to the athlete of the week list, and the javelin throw showing its dominance amongst all of the other field events. As the season heats up keep an eye out for these outstanding athletes! 

Large School Female Track Athlete of the Week:  Brenna Porter, Jr. Sky View

Brenna locked up her second athlete of the week award with an outstanding mark of 43.06 seconds in the 300m hurdles. She beat the state leading mark by almost a full two seconds and qualified for state by over four seconds.

 

Large School Male Track Athlete of the Week: Derek Farley, Copper Hills

Derek Farley of Copper Hills High School ran a fantastic mark of 22.35 in the 200m at the Grizzly Invite in Logan this last week giving him the win. He is now in the top 3 for rankings and will definitely be one to watch when the state meet comes up.

 

Small School Female Track Athlete of the Week: Erica Birk, Sr. North Summit

Erica has proven to be a beast on the track this season not only in the small school division but throughout the entire state. Finishing in a speedy 2:17.43 for 800m beating second place by a margin of over 14 seconds she is one to watch as state inches closer. She has the number one and three times in the state for the 800m this season.

 

Small School Male Track Athlete of the Week: Ammon Mitchell, San Juan

San Juan High School's Ammon Mitchell ran a great 110m hurdles in 15.44 at the Carbon Invite this week giving him the win for the meet and also the best mark so far in 2A. He is ranked 4th overall divisions and it will be exciting to see how he performs at the upcoming big invitationals.

 

Large School Female Field Athlete of the Week: Audrey Muir, Jr. Union

This week Audrey made another strong showing at the Carbon High School Farm Bureau Invite by tying her mark at 5 feet 7 inches in the high jump. She beat the second place mark by 4 inches. As the season heats up she will definitely be one to watch especially when she goes head to head with Kailey Hansen from Herriman High school later on in the season.

 

Large School Male Field Athlete of the Week: Skyler Porcaro, Maple Mountain

Skyler had a strong performance at the Grizzly invite in the Javelin throwing 173 feet and 8 inches. Skyler threw the top mark in the state a few weeks ago and continues to show his dominance on the field. He is definitely one to watch as state draws near.

 

Small School Female Field Athlete of the Week: Lindsey Christensen, Sr. San Juan

This week, senior Lindsey Christensen from San Juan High School took home the Athlete of the week with her mark in the Javelin at 120 feet 7 inches. This mark gave her the win at the Carbon High School Farm Bureau Invite and moved her to first place in rankings for the small schools.

 

Small School Male Field Athlete of the Week: Sage Palmer, Sr. Enterprise

Sage Palmer, a senior from Enterprise High school, once again snags the position of Athlete of the week with his mark in the javelin at 168-10, giving him a win at the Cedar invite this past weekend. He continues to show his dominance on the field and shows that he can perform under pressure.
