Cortnie Barker of Syracuse was not only fighting to see who the top underclassmen girls high jumper in the state was, but she was also competing for the top overall place, which she achieved when she jumped 5-9 at the Region 1 Championships. Barker was trading top marks with fellow sophomore Cami Cvitkovich of Weber, who ended the season with a personal best of 5-8. These two sophomore girls were well ahead of the rest of the field, and the future looks bright for the girl's high jump in the state of Utah.
Switching over to the long jump, it was none other than our Gatorade Utah Girls Track & Field athlete of the year, Amare Harlan of Fremont, who ended the season on top for the long jump. We'll see Amare make a few more appearances in our end-of-the-season rankings, but Harlan was a multi-event athlete who posted some of the top times and marks in almost every event she competed in. Amare would end the 2022 track season with a 19-7 from the Arcadia Invitational in the long jump.
