Preview: 2021 Utah 5A Girls Cross Country State Meet

Individuals

The Favorite(s): Mari Konold
Mari Konold of Mountain View has been on a role these past two months and hasn't let up on the gas!  She's come out of the gates swinging and has risen to be arguably the fastest XC runner in the State!  Konold has been pocketing big wins left and right and delivered huge upsets to some of the other top talent in the state.  In the 5A classification, Konold nearly stands alone but there will be some eager underclassman looking to chase her down!

Timpview has a fine pair of underclassman who are both capable of placing in the top three at State!  Freshman Jane Hedengren and Sophomore Mckayla Boulton will be leading that chase pack agaisnt Konold it hopes of denying the junior her first Individual XC title!
Other athletes that could make a dash to the front are Springville's Sarah Galbraith who was third at last year's meet. Raygan Peterson of Timpanogos has also had a fine season that could see her finishing with a top five placement as well!

Teams

The Favorite(s):  Timpview
The addition of freshman Jane Hedengren and rise of Sophomore McKayla Boulton has propelled the T-Birds to not only the favorites to win the 5A State title but also be one of the top programs in the State!  Timpview' s main highlight of the season came from the Border Wars meet where they finished second behind nationally ranked American Fork and upset Lone Peak in the process.

Springville leads the charge to upset this young Timpview team and they have the experience to pull it off.  Springville has the longest active win streak at the cross country State meet and despite returning all of their scoring runners from last year's meet, it won't be easy to defend their title.  Not only does Timpview pose the immediate threat, other teams such as Orem or Mountain View are dangerously close to booting both Timpview and Springville from a podium spot.  This race could come down to any of these four squads and the winner will be who ever happens to have the best day when it counts the most.
