Brayden Brunson: Coming on strong

Brayden Brunson: Coming on Strong

One of the state's premier sprinters is coming on strong with possible state records and championships on the horizon.

(Salt Lake City, UT) Delta senior sprinter Brayden Brunson seeks to place his stamp as one of the top sprinters in the State of Utah. Brunson, the defending 3A state 200 meter champion remains undefeated on the season with the fastest indoor 200 meter thus far. Ranked #1 by the UHSTCA for 2009 in the indoor 200 meter Brayden eyes the UHSTCA Indoor State Championships. UHSTCA Rankings

Brunson has also guided the Delta sprint crew to the state's #1 4x200 meter relay. The eye popping early season 1:38.46 shows that Delta is ready to improve upon their runner-up finish in last years outdoor 4x100 relay and possibly garner the Indoor State 4x200m Championship. Look for Brunson to lead the Delta crew to a possible state 3A record in both the indoor 4x200m and eventual outdoor 4x100 relay's this spring.

With a personal best 11.14 outdoor 100m in 2008, Brayden has used this spead to close in on the 7 second barrier for the 60 meter dash. His 7.17 at the BYU Invitational is an indicator of great things to come for Brayden Brunson this season. With Brunson's natural speed and dramatic improvement over last year it should be interesting to see if he challenges Brian Hazelgren's 3A state 200 meter record of 21.66 which has stood unchallenged since 1981. The 200 meter is Brunson's best event, with apparent 10-7-10.8 100 meter speed (possibly faster) a sub 22 second 200 meter won't be surprising. Breaking a 28 year old record will be, only time will tell if Brunson will leave his mark in the state record books.
