Team Utah's Girls win 6 events at Great Southwest Classic

The Team Utah Girls represented well at the Great Southwest Classic this weekend. With stiff competition coming in from all over the southwest, the Utah Girls picked up wins in 6 events. Kaysha Love won the 200m Dash, Sierra Malm won the 2k Steeple, Summer Harper won the 3200m, Lucy Biles won the 1 mile run, Megan Glassman won the Javelin, and the Utah Girls also picked up the win in the 4x800m Relay.

Here are the top performers per event for the Team Utah Girls.

Girls 100m – Kaysha Love was the top Utah finisher in the event with a time of 11.90, which was 3rd overall.  Ashlynn Allred was the second Utah finisher, 11th overall with a time of 12.25.  Shayna Yon of Colorado was the overall winner with a time of 11.50.

Girls 200m- Kaysha Love, a freshman from Herriman, won the girls 200m dash with a time of 24.19. She beat out her nearest competitor, Sasha Jarrett of Arizona, by .3 seconds.

Girls 400m- The girls 400m was a very fast one, with Nicole Montgomery running unattached and winning in 55 seconds flat. Whitney Wilcox was the top Utah finisher in 14th place with a time of 58.78.

Girls 800m- In an event where Utah has some very solid talent, Riley Cooney of Colorado actually grabbed the win with a time of 2:18.34. Sierra Malm was the top Utah finisher in 5th place overall with a time of 2:20.25. Malm was also the steeple champ on Friday night.

Girls 1 mile Run- Lucy Biles has peaked at exactly the right time of year. After winning 4 events at the state championships, she won a very close 1500m Saturday night at the Great Southwest Classic. She beat out Sydney Badger of Nevada 5:01.77 to 5:02.32.  Marlee Mitchell was 4th overall at 5:16.81.

Girls 3200m Run- Summer Harper led a Utah sweep of the girls 3200m. Tavia Dutson was second and McKayla Morgan was third to round out the sweep. Utah has had one of the greatest distance running years in the history of the state, and so a sweep of the girls 3200m is something everyone knew was a possibility, but with so much talent from so many states, you never know what can happen. Harper’s winning time was 11:01.02.

Girls 100m Hurdles- Nicole Laws was the top Utah finisher in a very talented girls 100m Hurdles, finishing 10th with a time of 14.77.

Girls 300m Hurdles- Riley Lyman ran a time of 45.70 to grab 11th place overall and was Utah’s top finisher in the event.

Girls 2000 M Steeple- Sierra Malm won the girls steeple by a landslide. She has the talent to run a great time and apparently had the technique down as well. She won by 45 seconds with a time of 7:21. 19.

Girls 4x100m- Colorado showed off their depth in the sprints as they went 1-2 in the 4x100. Utah’s team of girls placed 8th in the event.

Girls 4x200m Relay- Utah put together a pretty good race, good enough to take 7th overall in the 4x200m relay. Missouri won the event in a very close finish over Arizona.

Girls 4x400m Relay- It was Missouri again grabbing the win in the girls 4x400 as the Utah team got beat up on, finishing with a time of 4:10 to Missouri’s winning time of 3:48.

Girls 4x800 Relay- Team Utah showed of the distance strength winning a close 4x800m over Colorado. Team Utah also placed 3rd and 4th.

Girls Shuttle Hurdles- Team Utah ran very well in the event, getting beat out by only Texas in the girls 4x100m shuttle hurdles.

Girls High Jump- Audrey Muir and Britten Duerden represented Utah well in the girls high jump, placing 2nd and 3rd overall both clearing 5’6”.

Girls Pole Vault- Bethany Foster was the top Utah competitor in the girls pole vault, placing 10th clearing 10’5.5”.

Girls Long Jump- Kellie Macdonald was top jumper for team Utah, grabbing 10th place overall with a jump of  17’4.75”

Girls Shot Put- Kassie Nagel didn’t lose to any thrower in the state of Utah all season, though she couldn’t remain undefeated in post season competition as she ended up 3rd in the Girls Shot. She threw 43’2.25”, which was only a foot behind the winner.

Girls Discus- Megan Glasmann was the top Utah thrower in the Discus with a throw of  119’04” and was 5th overall with her throw.

Girls Javelin- Megan Glasmann has dominated Javelin competition all season long, and won again at the Great Southwest Classic with a throw of 141’11”. Anden Lyman has also had a great season and was just 2 feet short of her season best with her throw of 136’9”.

Girls Heptathlon. Nicole Laws represented Utah well with her 5th place finish in the girls heptathlon. She scored 4399 points
