Weekend Recap: April 18-20, 2013

 

There were several great meets around the state this weekend, and great performances by Utah athletes as well. With two state records falling, this has to be the most impressive weekend of competition so far this season in the state. 

We already recapped a few of the highlights, including Ben Saarel’s performance at Mt. Sac. (view recap). Ben also ran a 1:52 in the 800m at the meet.

Sarah Feeny set the 3a State Record in the girls 3200m run at the Dixie Invite. She won all 3 distance events as well.  (view meet recap)

Woods Cross Boys set the 4x100m Relay State Record at the Wildcat Invitational. (view recap here)

 

Those are a few of the highlights, but here are some other performance that deserve to be noticed.

 

Taylorsville Invite Highlights

Emily Rich of Bingham won the girls 800m and 1600m with a 2:14 and a 5:09. Her 800m time is 2nd in the state this season.

Timpview Girls Sprint Medley Relay won a very exciting and talented event with a time of 4:18 which is 3nd in the state this year.

Kramer Morton of Alta won the 1600 with a time of 4:22

Sam Roberts of Alta won the Boys 300h with a time of 39.21 which is 3rd in the state this year.

Nathan Merchant of Jordan was 2nd in the 800 with a time of 1:56.80 which is 6th in the state this year.

Lavontae Calhoun of Jordan is the current state leader in the Shot Put, and missed his best throw by a mere 8 inches but still won by quite a bit.

 

Sky View Invitational Highlights

Conner Mantz of Skyview ran a 9:22 in a solo effort, which is the one of the fastest times run within the state this season.

Brenna Porter won the 300h with a time of 43.78

Mitzi Munns tied her season best in the High Jump at 5’4”

 

Utah County Invite Highlights

Mindy Stapel of Springville won the Girls 300h with a 44.67. she also won the long jump

Springville Girls won the Medley Relay with a 4:17 over American Fork’s 4:19. These marks are the 2nd and 4th best in the state this season.

Isaac Faux won the 1600m in a heat that saw 7 runners under 4:30. Faux’s time was 4:20.77.

Nate Strong won the 110h with a time of 15.38

Jadon Pace of Mountain View tied the 2nd best mark in the state this year clearing 6’6”. He also won the Long Jump with a mark of 21’2”

Chad Best of Timpanogos and Dallen Stark of Springville both cleared 6’1”

Chandler Clark of Lone Peak threw 149’3.25” in the Discus

 

 

Wasatch Invite Highlights

Bonnie Curtis of Richfield won the 400m dash with a time of 57.72 which is 3rd best in the state this year. Mckell Richins was 2nd with a 59.55.

Talem Franco of Wasatch won the boys 800m with a time of 1:54.69 which is the fastest time run in the state this year. The only person who has run faster is Ben Saarel, Who did so in California this weekend. Burton Griffin of Richfield also performed well at Wasatch with a time of 1:58.44.  

Jeff Rowley won the Boys Javelin with a mark of 177. It is one of the best throws in the state this year, though he has thrown 190 this season.

Nate Lee of Wasatch was 2nd in the Long Jump with a mark of 21’6.5 which is 5th in the state this year. Just behind him was Brenan Thomas of Richfield at 21’4”

Brenan Thomas came back to clear 6’4 in the High Jump for the win

Alyssa Brown of Spanish Fork won the girls long jump with a mark of 17’2.5” which is the 3rd best mark in the state this year.

Sammi Beck of Richfield won the Discus over Kaitlyn Rowser, 118’11” to 113’3”

Kaitlin Walker won the Girls 100h with a time of 15.35 and then came back to win the 300h with a season best time of 45.12 which is 2nd in the state this year.

Lance Allen won the Boys 110h with a time of 15.18

Zac Morris of Lehi won the 200m with a time of 22.35 which is 6th in the state this year.
