Meet Recap: Wildcat Invitational

 

Woods Cross High School hosted their Wildcat Invitational on Friday afternoon.

The highlight of the night was most certainly the Boys 4x100m relay, where the Woodscross Wildcats broke the state record, and in the process beat out some great competition from Northridge and Syracuse. Boys 100m Dash – Sean Barton and Derek Lord were part of that state record team and they also went 1-2 in the 100m dash.  Barton ran 11.11 and Lord ran 11.25. they were followed by Stetson Sartor of Herriman at 11.35, which is a season best for him. Stetson came back to also set a season best and win the Long Jump with a jump of 21’2”.

Boys 1600m Run- Herriman High dominated the boys 1600m with a very impressive 1-2-3 finish in a very tight group. Rory Linkletter led his teammates with a personal best time of 4:24.1 followed by Chuk Mitchell and Connor Jones both at 4:25.8. Rory doubled back in the 800m with another personal best time of 2:01.80 which was 4th place.

Girls Long Jump- Kaylie King of Herriman won the long jump in personal best fashion, with a jump of 17’2”. She won the meet by nearly 2 feet and her jump was only 1 inch off the top jump in the state.

Girls 1600m Run-  Courtney Wayment of Northridge ran a huge personal best of 5:12 for the win. Wayment is only a freshman and is already creeeping ever closer to that 5 minute barrier. She was followed by Megan Spehar of Bountiful at 5:14 and Sharlie Dimick of Syracuse at 5:15.

Girls 100m Dash – Freshman Kaysha Love of Herriman continued her fantastic first season with another win. She beat out her teammate Rachel Butterfield 12.38 to 13. 22. Mackenzie Bindrup of Northridge was 3rd.

Boys 200m Dash – Woods Cross Boys sprints are dominant this season, taking 4 of the top 5 places last night. Jacopo Spano beat out his teammate, the meet 100m champ Sean Barton 22.69 to 22.99. Jared Humphrey of Herriman was 3rd at 23.22.

Girls 200m Dash- Rachel Butterfield of Herriman came back from a 2nd place to finish in the 100m to win the 200m with a time of 26.48.  she was followed by Northridge duo Laura Kehr and Mackenzie Bindrup.

Boys 400m Dash- Much like the other sprints, the boys 400m was dominated by Woods Cross with Xequille Harry winning in 50.17 followed by Nate Benson and Brandon Kinsey.

Boys 3200m Run- Davis Duo Alex Hedquist and Andrew Aposhian went 1-2, running 9:31 and 9:35 respectively. Hedquist ran a PR at Arcadia two weeks ago but his 9:31 at altitude might be more impressive. Imagine what he will do in a stacked race like the Davis Invite next week or the BYU invite the week after.

Girls 3200m Run- Lucy Biles of Herriman won the 3200m run with a time of 11:11 which is just 2 seconds off her personal best. she is coming into form perfectly for the height of the season.

Boys High Jump- Anthony Gregory of Roy cleared 6’5” which ties his outdoor season best for him. His personal best is 6’6” which he reached indoors this season at Weber State. He was followed by Blake Williams of Viewmont.

Girls Sprint Medley Relay – Herriman Girls destroyed the field with a 20 second win in the SMR. Their mark is the fastest time in the state this season by any team. The Herriman Girls also won the 4x400 relay and the 4x100 relay.
