And a Big One in Southern Utah as Well

"Wait a minute," you say, "you left out the big meet in Cedar City!"

And I did. I got so wrapped up in the big doings around the Salt Lake and Provo areas, I slipped the Southern Utah University Invitational from my mind. My apologies.

Southern Utah may not have the population base of the Wasatch Front, but they've had some very good cross country programs in recent years. You can figure they're pretty much all headed to Cedar City for the Southern Utah University High School Invitational on Saturday.

For the St. George area teams, that means a little respite from the heat, but that little drive up the highway to Bicentennial Park comes at a serious cost of oxygen.

Racing begins bright and early at 8 AM with the JV races. The varsity girls race at 9:15, and the varsity boys toe the line at 10:00.

Last year, Tommy Ingalls of Snow Canyon took top honors in the boys varsity race, but Pine View (all five runners of them) went home with the team trophy. Ingalls should be back this year to defend his title.

For the girls, Erica Birk of North Summit pretty much destroyed the field last year. She won't be back, leaving things wide open for this year's individual title. Pine View easily turned back Cedar and Snow Canyon for last year's team title and will be looking to defend that title this year.
