The Davis Invitational had most of the biggest performances, but there was plenty going on in other parts of the state as well.
Davis High School Invitational
Were the 1600 fast at the Davis Invitational? Here's all you need to know...
At altitude, six girls under 5:10 and five boys under 4:20. There aren't many states anywhere to which Utah gives up much in terms of distance quality.
Most of the names posting big marks at this meet are already familiar, but a few new names crept a little higher onto the radar screen at this meet as well. Among those are Sam Sweet of Hillcrest, running a 57.39 400, Jaxon Hansen of Syracuse, running a 1:54.79 800, and a huge 190-0 javelin mark for Austin Kafentzis of Jordan. That's a mere four feet off the 5A classification record set just last year.

Last Chance Meet
Hosted in Kayenta, AZ, this meet pulled in a few of the Grand and San Juan County schools, but failed to produce many marks that rank as noteworthy on a statewide level at this point in the season. The biggest Utah mark posted was a discus throw of 149-10 by Grand County's Kevin Ballard.
Nyle Norris Invitational
Desert Hills nearly swept the teams titles of this meet in Richfield, edging Uintah for the girls team crown and being edged by Richfield for the boys team crown.
Throws enjoyed a major presence in this meet with Justin Johnson of Green River pitching the javelin 182-0, Rachel Garrett of Grand County winning the discus at 120-5, and Kevin Ballard, also of Grand County, winning the discus at 152-1. Delta's Weston Cropper won both hurdle titles at 14.94 and 40.14. Freshman Abby Taylor of Desert Hills took the 100, 200, and LJ at 12.86, 26.50, and 16-9. That qualifies as a pretty legitimate day.
Girls Highlights
- Discus - Rachel Garrett (Grand County) 120-5;
Boys Highlights
- Discus - Kevin Ballard (Grand County) 152-1 SB;
- High Jump - Tyler Ott (Desert Hills High School) 6-6;
- Javelin - Justin Johnson (Green River) 182-0 SB;
Orem Tiger Trial Invitational
Blake Adams of Salem Hills going 48.89 in the 400 looks like a very nice mark. That leaves him at #2 in the state in all classifications and about a half-second ahead of everyone in 4A.
Mostly, however, Orem managed to dominate their own meet. Candace Greenwood ran a nice 2:20.46 to win the 800, Summer Harper and Greenwood went 1-2 in the 1600, Kaleb Egbert (15.09) and Ellery Young (15.80) swept the short hurdles, while Lesa Mua swept the girls' throws for the Tigers.
Murray's Tyler Liddiard won the 100 in 10.86 and the 200 at 22.24.

Southern Utah University Invitational
Probably the second biggest meet of the weekend was the SUU Invitational in Cedar City.
North Sanpete's Dak Kleven started out the 200 with a very nice 22.29 in prelims, then backed it up with a 22.00 (just ahead of Sage Palmer's 22.03) to win the event in finals. Cedar's own Aimee Bryson took her race distance up a step and produced a 2:18.06 winner in the 800 for her efforts.
Rachel Garrett's best discus throw of the week came here, most of the way across the state from home, with a 124-8.

Wasatch Invitational
It was a small three-school meet, but it did turn up a result or two of interest.
Wasatch's Talem Franco ran just fast enough (4:36.80) to hold off Judge Memorial's Jack Dailey (4:37.71) in the 1600. Wastach's Jon Durrant showed a little developing 100 hurdles promise with a win in 15.77.
