The Gatorade Company with collaboration from ESPN Rise has named Austin West (Jr., American Fork High School) and Gillian Gorelik (Sr., Park City High) Gatorade Players of the Year for Utah. The award is given to a player who not only shows excellence in their sport but also in the classroom. The athlete must also show strong character on and off the course.
Gorelik won the Park City Invitational and the Orem Kiwanis XC Invite. She also placed 5th at the BYU Autumn Classic Invite, 3rd at the 32nd Murray Invite and 6th at the Wasatch Rendevous. Gorelik finished 6th at the Region X Championships and then went on to win the Utah State Cross Country Championships.
After her Utah season was over Gorelik headed to Tempe Arizona for the Nike Cross SW Regionals placing 18th.
Undefeated in Utah, West won the 5A Pre-Region Championships, the Wasatch Invite, the Provo Bulldog Invite, the Nebo Invite, the Region Championships and the Utah State Cross Country Meet. One month later, West headed to the Nike Cross SW Regionals where he placed 6th.
