Salute To Seniors: Britton Austin (Farmington)

Want To Be Our Next Senior Salute? Find Out How!

Name: Britton Austin

School: Farmington

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?

The 2020 XC State meet at Soldier Hollow was just insane. Incredible atmosphere, brutal course, and such a legendary upset for our squad- winning all classifications when we were supposed to get 3rd in 5A was just the best. Also getting 8th individually when I was supposed to be somewhere in the high 20s was a big highlight.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

It's a five-way tie between Ethan Peterson, Isaac Halverson, Ryan Bennett, Matthew Neuenschwander, and Spencer Bradshaw. I've loved being on such a stacked team with so many guys pushing each other to be their best.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

The two XC state wins and top 10 individual placements in a row. Really meaningful to do it with all my teammates as well.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would push myself harder earlier. I really got into it in sophomore year but I imagine I could've been faster if I worked harder freshman year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Being on such a loaded team meant that I had to constantly hold myself to a higher standard to score and place- I didn't even make the varsity team till the middle of junior year.

What will you miss the most?

Just good times with the boys! All the runs and workouts and races and time we spent together will be missed.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Why not be the best you can be? If you're already putting in time by coming to practice, races, and everything else, might as well be fast. Run lots of mileage and do the small things. No reason not to.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

Brower is an amazing coach and it's sad that he's leaving the program in favor of other pursuits. But he's had a huge influence in that he gets people to believe in themselves. He comes to practice and races with a bright, positive disposition and leads by example. Huge impact on me for sure.

What are your college plans?

Heading to Germany for my mission first thing and then I'm committed to Utah State! Go Aggies!

Who would you like to say 'thank you to?

Coach Brower, my family, and all of my teammates throughout the years (special shoutouts to Ethan Peterson, Isaac Halverson, Ryan Bennett, Matthew Neuenschwander, Spencer Bradshaw, Simon Mitchell, Rawson Spackman, Trey Austin, and Adam Wall)

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
