Salute To Seniors: Abigail Barlow (American Fork)

Want To Be Our Next Senior Salute? Find Out How!

Name: Abigail Barlow

School: American Fork

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?

My most memorable race would have to be NXR SW 2021. I didn't run super great and I was frustrated and crying as I went to go find my teammates, only to find out that we had won the race! Sad tears quickly turned to happy tears as we celebrated our win. It was so unexpected but such an amazing feeling to know that my team was the best in the west!

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Region 4 is definitely very competitive, there are a lot of fast teams and individuals.

    What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment would be my improvement in running through my high school years. In my first 5k as freshman, I ran in 27:32. In my last 5k as a senior, I ran in 17:16.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would enjoy every moment and try to be present instead of worrying about the future. Four years goes by so fast and it's over before you know it.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I've definitely had my fair share of obstacles over the past 4 years, but my junior year I really struggled with my racing mentality and my running was affected because of that.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my team! I love my girls more than anything.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Greatness comes from within - make sure that you believe in your ability to do hard things!

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coaches shaped me into the runner I am today! They care about my feelings and goals outside of running and are supportive in every aspect of my life.

    What are your college plans?

I will be running at BYU this fall! Go Cougs!

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

Thank you mom and dad for being at every race and being proud of me no matter what. Thank you Lindsey, Bruno, and Kevin for always believing in me and pushing me to be my best. Thank you to my team for always being there for me and always being up for a good time.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

    Run fast! :)
