5A Preview
The US#8 American Fork cavemen have stormed through the entire season as the team to beat. Looking to be regarded as potentially an all-time Utah great team they head into the state championships as the only team with a legitimate shot at taking down the course record. On the individual side, Austin West of American Fork has been near unstoppable the entire season. Already a sub 15 minute 5K this season he has the potential to dip under Stephen Clark's 2007 state meet record of 15:23.50. In girls action it would seem a head to head battle between American Fork and Davis is underway. American Fork has had the Darts number all season however, Davis coach Corbin Talley peaks his team well and they could repeat as state champions if American Fork has an off day. Alexis Laws and Morgan Warner of American Fork as early favorites to claim the individual championships with Davis Meghan Headquist competing as well.
Prediction: Boys: American Fork in a landslide and course record; Girls: American Fork narrowly over Davis
4A Preview
Mountain View boys and girls teams are clear favorites for the team championships. Both coming off of stellar team performances at the Bob Friman Invitational Region Championship victories. It would seem things are looking up for the Bruins. Asheigh Warner of Mountain View is the early individual favorite for the girls championship with teammate Travis Taylor battling against elague rival Jake Berlin of Timpanogos for the boys championship. Trevor Thompson of Pineview is an outside darkhorse.
Prediction: Boys: Timpanogos over Mountain View by less than 5 points; Girls: Mountain View in dominating fashion
3A Preview
The states top program for girls Park City is coming off another dominant season. Undefeated and having sound victories over every team in Utah Park City is expected to blow the competition away. Could possibly place all five varsity scorers in the top 10 individually.
Prediction: Boys Cedar City in a ladnslide; Girls: Park City with less than 20 team points.
