Utah will only be having two entries for New Balance Nationals this year. First will be the 4A Girls 3200m State Champion Bailey Brinkerhoff and second will be Utah's top Steeple Chase runner Carson Wilkins who ran a 6:12.78 to win the UVU High School Invitational back in March.
Brinkerhoff won the 4A 3200m State Title in a time of 10:46.24. She will be running a full two mile at New Balance. The Utah State commit has been tearing it up this outdoor season by winning the 3200m State Title and finishing 3rd in the 1600m finals. Bailey broke the 5 minute barrier for the first time in her career at the Dixie Invitation finishing in a time of 4:58.82 which is the 4th fastest time in the State. Bailey will be competing against some of the fastest girls in the country including two-time NXN Champion Katelyn Tuohy.
Carson Wilkins owns the fastest 2000m Steeplechase time in the state clocking a 6:12 at the UVU High School Invitational. Just this past weekend we saw Team Utah Sweep the top 5 spots at the Great Southwest Classic.
Wilkins has committed to run for Weber State University and ended his senior year by placing 2nd in the 3A 1600m Finals, 3rd in the 3200m, and 5th in the 800m. Steeplechase in Utah is an event that can be run at only 2 meets in the State so there's not a whole lot of actual steeplechase racing these athletes get to do. Carson had the chance to run the Steeplechase at New Balance Nationals last year where he finished 19th overall in a time of 6:11.65
