Murray High hosted the their annual Invitational today at Murray Park. With over 65 teams entered in the meet, and both Varsity, and JV races having nearly 400 competitors per race, it wasn’t a meet to miss on a perfect Friday afternoon.

Early drama heading in to the race came across the local news channels as the school bus carrying the Mountain Crest team got in an accident en route to the meet. Luckily for everyone on board, no serious injuries were reported, though the team was surely shaken and sore. Hopefully there will be no long lasting effects from this for the Mustangs.

The Girls race was a huge battle, with 39 nine teams in the scoring categories. As has been a common headline over the past few years, the Davis Darts used an amazing 29 second spread from their first girl to their fifth to run away with the team title. Park City was ahead after 4 finishers, but the 5th and final scorer for each team made all the difference. The final margin of victory was 35 points with Davis scoring 65 to Park City’s 90. American Fork was 3rd, and also had a good spread of only 42 seconds from 1-5. Maple Mountain picked up 4th on the back of a top 10 finish for team leader Britney Lund, and Skyline rounded out the top 5.

Individually, Sarah Feeny ran away from Aimee Bryson and the rest of a talented field to win again on the season. Her winning time was 17:41. She is looking like she is in top form and may be hard to beat all season long. Bryson was 2nd in 17:53 with Hannah Malone of Box Elder coming across the line in 17:56.

The boys race was too close to call, as three teams battled for the win, separated in the end by a mere 7 points. Mike Buckley led the Ogden Tigers with a 4th overall finish as they battled closely with Davis. Every individual place mattered as Ogden’s fifth man scored 35th, to Davis’ scoring 38. The three points between them was enough for Ogden to overtake Davis and Win 105 to 107. The Orem Tigers did had a very impressive pack of guys, and their 3rd through 5th man finished all together, Making them the first team with 5 guys across the line. Their final score was 110, just 5 points behind team champion Ogden. Mountain View was 4th with 206 points, led by Sam Sorensen, and Mountain Crest rounded out the top 5.

The Individual title was another close battle between Alta star Kramer Morton and Connor Mantz of Sky View. These two are ranked very high nationally, and battle closely every time they meet. You for the second time this season Morton beat out Mantz for the win, pulling away by only 2 seconds. Morton ran 15:18 over the 5k course to Mantz time of 15:20. Just behind them Sam Sorensen of Mountain View and Mike Buckley of Ogden battled it out for the third spot on the podium. Sorensen held off Buckley 15:29.2 to 15:30.1.
