The 2013 Girls Track MVP’s and Performance of the Year Awards

The 2013 Girls Track MVP’s and Performance of the year awards as voted on by the coaches. 

MVP AWARDS

5A- Shea Martinez- Davis. Martinez had a record-breaking senior season, setting the state record in the 800m with a time of 2:08.. She capped it off by winning four events at the Utah State Championship, the 1600m, 800m, and relay wins in the 4x400m, and Medley.

4A- Brenna Porter- Skyview. Porter was named the 4A MVP for dominating both hurdle events all season long. The highlight of her season was when she broke her own state record in the 300m hurdles at the BYU Invitational, with an all-classification record time of 41.54.

3A- Sarah Feeny- Ogden. Feeny had one of the best seasons ever by a distance runner from the state of Utah. She won the State Championship in the 1600m and 3200m. She also set the state record in both events during the year. Her season was capped off with a 4:46.24 full mile at the Adidas Dream Mile in New York. All of this was done in just her junior season, so expect great things from Sarah again next year.

2A- Ashlynn Allred- Emery. The sophomore from Emery used her speed to earn her the 2A MVP Award. She won the State Championship in both the 100m and 200m Dash. She also ran personal bests of 12.41 in the 100m, 25.27 in the 200m, 1:00.95 in the 400m, and jumped 17-4.75 in the Long Jump.

1A- Whitney Orton- Panguitch. Orton is only a freshman, but is already dominating competition in the 1A girls. She won the State Championship in the 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m. It will be fun to see what she can accomplish over the next three years.

 

Performance of the Year

5A- Emily Rich- Bingham. Rich earned the Performance of the Year award for 5A for her 10:42.09 in the 3200m at the BYU Invitational.

4A- Brenna Porter- Skyview. Porter’s BYU Invitational win of 41.54 was an all-classification state record in the 300m hurdles. It was also one of the most impressive performances of any event in any classification.

3A- Sarah Feeny- Ogden. Feeny’s State Championship win of 4:50.04 in the 1600m earned her the 3A Performance of the Year award. Feeny had a list of races that were all good enough to earn her this award.

2A- Anden Lyman- Enterprise. Lyman’s state record throw of 139’1” in the Javelin was more than deserving of the Performance of the Year Award.

1A- Emily Catron- Manila. Catron earned the Performance of the Year Award with her season best throw in the Javelin of 123’4” at the Region 21 Championship.
