Desert Hills High School of St. George hosted their Invitational this weekend. The conditions were perfect. With temperatures around 75 degrees and very mild wind, the athletes were set up with a perfect day to run personal bests.

A few of the athletes who really capitalized on that were Austin Brower, Brad Wulfenstein, Kayla Shakespeare, and more.

Austin Brower of West Lake made the most of the great conditions as he doubled up in wins and personal bests. He ran 4:18 in the 1600m and came back to dominate in the 800m with a  fantastic time of 1:56.42. the Junior is setting himself up nicely for the rest of the season.

Brad Wulfenstein of Desert Hills used the home track advantage to his favor. He won the 110m hurdles with a state leading and new personal best time of 14:45. He came back to place 3rd in the 100m dash.

Sisters Kayla and Brooklyn Shakespeare of Cedar went 1-2 in the 100m dash, came back to go 1-3 in the 200m dash with Kayla winning both events. They also both helped out Cedar in the 4x100m win.

Chandler Swaney of Desert Hills jumped 21’8.75” in the boys Long Jump. That mark is 3rd in the state as of Friday.

Jackie Heaps of Lehi had a great double placing 2nd in the 1600 and coming back to win the 3200.

Aimee Bryson of Cedar is one of the most versatile athletes in the state right now. She put up the 3rd best 400m in the state at Pine View a few weeks ago, and this weekend she won the 1600m. She is also the XC State Champion so she truly does have talent on the speed and endurance level which is a great combo.

Not too many teams made the trek down from up north for this invitational, with most of the competition coming from Southern Utah, but the teams that did made the most of the trip. Led by Brower, the West Lake Thunder had a great meet ending up second to host Desert Hills.
