This weekend, Utah Valley University hosted its high school invitational at the Hal Wing Track and Field facility. Conditions were great and the times were too. A few of the highlights included Jake Heslington of Timpanogos getting a double victory in the 1600m and the 2000m Steeple Chase. Jake’s winning time of 4:19 matches the time he ran at the Pine View invite last weekend.

Lauren Baxter made her outdoor debut with a very impressive triple event win. She won the 100m, 200m, and 400m. Lauren’s 400m time of 56. Is by far the fastest in the state this year.  Her time in the 100 was 12.34 beating out Samantha Reeves of Orem and Fatou Trawally of  Skyline.

The Park City duo of Alyssa Snyder and Ali Walker went 1-2 in the girls 1600m beating out a very strong Summer Harper. They ran 5:08 and 5:11 respectively.  Harper got her revenge in the 800m. she won in 2:21 over Snyder who finished third in 2:23.

Nicole Laws continued her winning ways nearly running under 15 seconds in the 100m hurdles. Her time of 15.04 is the fastest time in the state so far and also would be top 5 in the state last year, so she puts herself in a position as the hurdler everyone else will be watching.

Brad Wulfenstein of Desert Hills has been running great this season. He doubled up to win both hurdle events this weekend. Brad’s time was 14.76 over Lance Allen of Richfield’s 14.96 in the 110m Hurdles and 39.36 in the 300m Hurdles.

Seth Fortin of Davis Narrowly missed dipping under 11 in the 100m dash coming in at 11.01. He was followed by Garrett England of Skyline in 11.16.

East High School’s Abigail Hurst won the girls 2000m steeplechase. An event rarely run in high school meets, she won by 12 seconds.

Josh Espinoza of Timpview won the boys 400m in 48.89. He was followed closely by Riverton star Brandon Walker at 49.08.

Kaitlin Walker of Wasatch High dominated the girls 300m Hurdles finishing in 45.62.

Brigham Whitney won the boys 800m in 1:56.19 over Josh Hartford of Green River Wyoming and Sam Sorenson of Mountain View.

Riverton looks deep in the relays winning both the 4x400 and the Sprint Medley. They will be very hard to beat in the 4x400 all season long. The only way they are vulnerable is if they spread to thin in the individual events. It wasn’t too much of an issue this weekend as Walker was 2nd in the 400 and Clay Lambourne won the 200m.

Tavia Dutson of Jordan won the girls 3200m by inches as she edged out Alexis MacArthur of Orem 11:29.35 to 11:29.68.

In the boys 3200m Tomy Gutierrez of East beat out Tyson Green of American Fork 9:35.70 to 9:39.38.

Miller Crawford of Riverton won the boys discus and placed third in the shotput. His mark in the discus was 165-04.

The Boys highjump was a 3 way tie for first at 6’4 inches. Chad Best of Timpanogos,  Brenan Thomas of Richfield, and Jadon Pace of Mountain View all cleared 6’4 and tied on misses, with Trevor Bursach of Lehi also clearing 6’4 but placing 4th on misses.

Lavontae Calhoun of Jordan High won the shot put with a throw of 55-04.

Andrew Tyndall of Davis High placed second in the pole vault to Dane Kelly of Evanston Wyoming. Tyndall Cleared 13 feet in the vault.

Though Teams were not complete, Riverton pulled out the victory over a very strong Davis team in the boys competition. 69 to 58 was the final score. in the girls team competition Orem beat out Park City 79 to 62.
