Before most of the track and field universe shut down this week due to fears of the coronavirus, a few teams in the state of Utah competed one last time at the Snow Canyon Invitational in St. George on Friday.
By the weekend, Utah's state association also declared a pause, registering a postponement on all competition until March 29.
But it was here where Skyline's Thomas Boyden was able to set a new Utah state record in the 1-mile with a time of 4:05.16, surpassing Casey Clinger's former mark of 4:06.22, which he set in 2017.
A Stanford University recruit, Boyden's season-opening career best time was 15 seconds faster than his top time from 2019 (4:20.32).
And he's one of just seven athletes to run under 4:10 in Utah state history.
