Meet Recap - UHSTCA Invitational Championship: Girls

The Olympic Oval in Kearns always produces great times and close competition. This weekend was no different. Most of the states top talent competed at the meet and some very impressive marks were posted. Here is an event by event breakdown of the meet.

In the Girls 60 meter dash Faton Trawally of the Mercury track club narrowly edged Lauren Baxter of Timpview for the win. Trawally ran 7.84 to Baxters 7.86. Baxter’s time matched her season best.

In the Girls 200m Dash Lauren Baxter of Timpview dominated,  winning by 1.8 seconds. She also improved her season best from 25.60 down to 25.06. Her time earns her US Milesplit First Team Elite and ranks in the top 20 in the US so far this year.

In the Girls 400m Dash it was Baxter again. She won this event by a staggering 4.34 seconds.  Her time of 56.33 was only half a second off her all time PR and will put her 7th in the nation so far this season. Taylor Cox of Davis stepped down from the distance events to work on her speed as she grabbed 2nd in the 400 with a 1:00.68.

In the Girls 800m Run Shea  Martinez Came back from 2nd in the 1600 to notch the top time in the 800m. Her time of 2:13.25 was just off her season best from Boise State last weekend. Her teammate Taylor Cox grabbed another second place in 2:18.12 which also makes her and Martinez Milesplit US First Team Elite. Shannon Maloney representing Cohipac made the trek up from Durango, Colorado to grab 3rd in the 800 and the 1600.

In the Girls 1600m Run Sarah Feeny stunned a stacked field and a packed house when she made a very strong move at about the 800m mark to pull away from the field. The heat included Shea Martinez of Davis, Summer Harper of Orem, Lucy Biles of Herriman, Emily Rich of Bingham, and Ellie Child of Davis.  Each of these girls are talented enough to win this event on any given day, but Feeny didn’t even give them the chance. Her move put her so far ahead that as Martinez closed as hard as she could she made up what seemed like a lot of distance and still finished 5 seconds behind. Shannon Maloney of Cohipac also was 3rd in both the 1600 and the 800.

In the Girls 3200m Run Feeny doubled back to dominate again. She posted a very strong time of 11:06.92. Ellie Child of Davis was 2nd and Allysa Snyder of Park City was 3rd. All 3 girls ran fast enough to put them on the list for the Milesplit US First Team Elite.

In the Girls 60m Hurdles Nicole Laws of Provo edged Tawnie Moore of Fremont 9.19 to 9.22. Her time is a season best by a tenth and she is improving enough every week to set her up for a great outdoor season. Christine Van Brocklin of Davis was 3rd at 9.43. Laws was also 3rd in the High Jump and 5th in the Long Jump.

In the team competition- the Davis Darts Dominated. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams barely scored enough points combined to be close to the Darts score. The darts only won 3 events at the meet so the biggest difference came in their depth and their all around talent. many of their athletes scored in 2 or more events and that contributed to their dominant win.
