Salute To Seniors: Jefferson McMullin (Lehi)

Want To Be Our Next Senior Salute? Find Out How!

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?
My most memorable race was cross country state because I had set the goal to win a year before and finally all the work I put in came together and I was able to do really well.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
My biggest competition was myself, I was always battling with myself to get the best mindset and to keep pushing and improving. But I wouldn't have been able to do what I did without the competition of athletes like Tayson Echohawk, Isaac Hedengren, Liam Heninger, Toby Knudsen, Jayden Fitzgerald, Jaron Hartshorn, Carter Cutting, Seth Walgren and so many others.

What was your greatest accomplishment?
I think my greatest accomplishment was winning NXR Southwest, that was pretty cool

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I wouldn't let myself get so stressed about it all. I gave myself a lot of big expectations which is a good thing, but sometimes it would get to the point that running wasn't fun. If I did it all again I'd make sure I was always smiling and remembering to enjoy the sport that I love.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
I got runner's knee pretty bad during my summer training before senior year, but I think the most difficult was always having confidence in myself and my potential and never giving up on the goals I set.

What will you miss the most?
I'm going to miss meeting all the people from other teams and becoming really good friends with all of them.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?
I'd say always stay hungry. There's a lot more that you can achieve than you think, it's just about how much work you're willing to put in.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
Dorton has always been the best influence in my life because he wants me to achieve greatness in all aspects of my life. He's always there for me and he always believes in me. When I tell him a goal that I have, he wants it as bad as I do. Having someone in the corner for me like that really helped me achieve what I have. He might not admit it, but we're basically best friends.

What are your college plans?
I'm going to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and then I'll come back and run at BYU!

Who would you like to say 'thank you to?
I want to give the biggest thank you to my family, especially my parents! They've always believed in me and supported me in everything I chased in life. And a huge thank you to my team. Lehi or die baby

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
"See you at the start line"
