On this day back in 2019, Lauren Merrill of Orem broke the overall Utah State Record in the pole vault when she cleared 12-3 at the Davis Invitational. Merrell had started vaulting for the first time in her life only less than a year before she broke the state record. Lauren's primary events were hurdles and sprints but adding the pole vault to the list made her a versatile athlete.
