Easton Allred of Corner Canyon High School, one of the top distance runners in the country and last year's fifth-place finisher at NXN, has announced that he has a stress fracture in his foot and will miss most of the fall season.
Allred, who ran jayvee due for Mountain Vista High School (CO) over the regular season last fall due to Colorado state association transfer rules, had an amazing finish to his junior year last year, scoring a runner-up finish at NXR Southwest before his top five bid at NXN. A couple of weeks later he announced that his family would be moving to Utah to complete his junior year and run his senior year at Corner Canyon.
Shortly after making the move, Allred started experiencing some unusual and consistent aches and pains. This led to IT band surgery in May.
After recovering from the surgery, Allred began running again -- and was present at the Nike Elite Camp in Portland, Oregon -- and was working out consistently with his team.
With only two weeks before the start of this season, he began to experience some foot pain, which turned out to be a stress fracture.
Allred, who owns a 4:09.49 PR in the mile from his sophomore season, is now sporting a boot for his injured foot and will be able to move without it after two and a half weeks.
After that it may be up to 5-6 weeks before we see Allred race again. That means he may not be racing until the Utah State Cross Country Championships.
This past weekend Corner Canyon won the Highland Invitational by putting four runners in the top 12. Once Allred gets added back into the lineup, he adds a dangerous weapon to an already strong team.
