In somewhat of an unknown region no teams entering the meet today were clear cut favorites. However, there were some great individual and team performances that should be noted. The Woods Cross Girls took home the team title, the Bountiful boys took home the title and Breanna Cobler comes back.

GIRLS RECAP: WOODS CROSS TAKES THE TEAM TITLE

The Woods Cross girls team ran away from the field to claim victory. Running in horribly hot conditions the WX girls claimed the team title with 47 points over Stansbury with 73 points. Running over a 3-mile course it is unclear how Woods Cross will stack up against other state competition, today, they were simply dominant.

Team Results: 1. Woods Cross 47; 2. Stansbury 73; 3. Highland 74; 4. East 97; 5. Tooele 105; 6. Bountiful 106; 7. Olympus 177

Girls Individual Results
1. Breanna Cobler East 20:00
2. Kate Stringfellow Highland 20:15
3. Annie Kirk Woods Cross 20:49
4. McKenzie Swensen Woods Cross 21:17

BREANNA COBLER: OVERCOMES TRIAL TO CLAIM VICTORY

Breanna Cobler popped onto the running scene three years ago as a stellar freshman. Since that time she has endured two seasons filled with injury and sickness. Spending the last two years with extreme stress fractures and most recently with pneumonia it was clear all Cobler wanted to do was run. In her own words, "It just seemed like I kept getting injured, I just want to run again." Competing in her first race in over 6 months Cobler did not disappoint.

Claiming the individual crown must have felt reassuring to Cobler as she was wearing a grin and seemed like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders following the race. Cobler will only get better with the weeks. When talking about where she is with training Cobler mentioned, "I have not done any speed work at all, everythign is off of base." Congratulations Brianna and welcome back.

BOY RECAP: BOUNTIFUL TAKES HOME THE TITLE

Led by individual standout Clark Taylor, the Bountiful boys claimed victory in the Pre-Region Championships. Taylor, the top returner from the 2008 4A State Championships was paced by much improved teammate Parker Evans who finished 4 seconds behind. Perhaps these two will place top 5 individually at the state championships several months from now. What was pretty cool is that Bountiful has a team that seeks to support their top two. At the conclusion of the meet this region is wide open.
