Herriman hosted some of the top talent in the state on Friday night. Rains pounded the course for the few days leading up to the meet, leaving it a muddy mess. The course already prides itself as the hardest in the state, and this just added to it. The times for the race do not reflect the talent of the competitors, but instead show truly how tough the course was.

In the Boys race, Nationally ranked and very talented American Fork worked as a pack to try and control Alta’s Kramer Morton. They battled up and down the muddy hills in a tight group, until Morton was able to break free late, using his strength to pull away for the win over the American Fork duo of Connor Mcmillan and Zac Jacklin. Illness that seems to be going around also affected the race. Andrew Brewer of Bingham, despite being sick, came up for 4th overall. Herriman’s team leader Rory Linkletter took the day off after feeling under the weather this week.

The Boys team race was dominated by American Fork. The Cavemen were 2nd in the nation last season, and haven’t missed a beat. They won this meet over very talented teams of Bingham, Timpanogos, Herriman, and Alta. The final score was American Fork 36, Bingham 84, and Timpanogos 86.

In the Girls race, the home-town favorite Lucy Biles also took the day off, opening the door for Bingham duo of Marlee Mitchell and Whitney Rich. The pair of Miners pulled away from the field together, leaving their closest competitor 30 seconds behind. Mitchell beat Rich for the win, finishing in a time of 22:08 to Rich’s 22:12.

Despite Bingham finishing 1-2 overall, Timpanogos still came on strong challenging for the team title. Both teams had all 5 girls in the top 13 overall, with he official team scores were Bingham 33 to Timpanogos 34.
