Syracuse High School played host to the Region 1 Championships where Davis High did what they’ve done all season; dominated. The depth and talent of the darts makes it difficult for any team to match pace as they are favored to win both the Boys and the Girls State Championship.

On the Girls side of things Davis used a great distance effort to score heaps of points. In the 1600 they scored 28 points alone as they grabbed first, second, third, and fifth. The had five scoring athletes in the 800m as well. The top Davis Performances came from Shea Martinez who nearly broke her own 800m state record and also won the 1600m. Also Jessica Richardson who won double gold in Shot and Discus, with a PR in the Discus and missing her Shot PR by 2 inches.

While Davis had the top team performance, there were great individual performances coming in from all teams entered.  Vicky Robinson of Weber won the 300h in 46.10. Her teammate Emily Black won the 400m Dash with a personal best of 57.56 which ranks 5th overall in the state and makes her the favorite in for the 5a State Championship.

The Boys competition was much of the same, with Davis scoring so many athletes in every event that no other team had a chance. The most impressive event for the Darts was the 800m run, where they had 4 guys under 1:57.17 and 7 of the top 8 places in the event. They also grabbed 5 of the top 6 places in the 1600m with Preston Johnson leading the charge in 4:24. They also grabbed 6 of the top 8 in the 3200m with Josh Ward taking the win.

Ben Bracken grabbed double gold in the Shot and Discus to help propel the Darts to victory.

Landon Greenhalgh of Syracuse deserves a shout out as he stood up to the Darts distance dominance in personal best fashion. He ran a PR in the 800m of 1:57.75, and also grabbed second in the 1600m.

Marcus Kemp of Layton Jumped 5A leading marks of 6’9.5” in the High Jump and 22’7” in the Long Jump
