The Woods Cross Wildcats boys 4x100m relay team sprinted their way into the record book Friday night as they broke the state record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 42.40. The previous record of 42.41 was held by Timpview High set in 2007.

Chandler Judd led the team off with his block start and rounded the first turn where he handed off to Sean Barton. Barton took the team down the back-stretch where he handed off to Jacopo Spano. Spano rounded the final turn and handed the baton to their closer, Derek Lord, the anchor leg. Lord brought them home and crossed the line just in time as they can now call themselves the fastest team in 4a history.

On paper it doesn’t surprise that the Wildcats set the record. Afterall, they currently have 3 of the 5 fastest 100m times in the state this season. Barton leads the state with a time of 10.87, followed by a duo from Stansbury High. Spano sits in 4th with a 10.99 and Lord in 5th with a 11.00 season best.  Judd has a personal best of 11.16.

Not only is the record impressive, but the conditions which they ran in were less than ideal. It was a blustery evening in Woods Cross with winds swirling and temperatures in the low 50’s at the time of the race.
