Meet Information

Coaches,

You and your team are invited to participate in the 2009 BYU Invitational which will be held on May 1-2, 2009 at the BYU Clarence Robison Track. We are excited about the meet! This is the 99th version of the meet, which was first held in 1911.

We will follow a format similar to past years with some additions. We will be holding on-field awards ceremonies after each final. All athlete that finish in the top 8 in each individual event will immediately be escorted to the awards peristyle. Results will be presented and the athletes will be recognized. The top eight athletes will receive an award t-shirt. The top three athletes will receive custom Invitational medals. We are bringing back the classic BYU Invitational medal, designed specifically for the invitational and presented during the 1980s! Awards will be presented promptly, allowing athletes to be available for additional competitions. We recognize that there is the possibility with quick awards ceremonies that because of protests, results could change after awards are presented. We feel that the benefits of a timely awards ceremony are sufficient to accept the risk of possibly holding a corrected awards ceremony later on. We are requesting your support for the awards ceremonies. We will also be recognizing the top male and female, track, and field athlete each day as the Outstanding Athlete, making 8 total athletes that will be honored.

Registration will be processed on-line at RunnerCard. Please use the same process that you have used in the past for the UHSAA State Cross Country Championships each year. For the steps to create an account and process your registration, go to www.RunnerCard.com and click on the Help link. Registration will close for the meet at 11:59 p.m., MDT, Monday, April 27th. Please update your team roster in your RunnerCard account so that all athlete information is correct, including athlete name with correct spelling and the correct year-in-school information. For registration the Meet Access Code is 99th.

Each team may enter athletes into events with up to 24 total participations per gender, not counting the 3200 meters or the relays. The top 10 athletes in each classification by performance will be admitted into the 3200 meters. The top 9 relay teams per classification will be admitted into each relay, 1 relay per team.

We are very excited about the meet. This is the oldest and most prestigious track and field invitational in the inter-mountain west. The meet was started in 1911 by Eugene Roberts. He patterned it after the Relay Carnival at Penn State.

Scoring The meet will be scored 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Registration - All registration will be done on-line. Click on the registration link at the top or the bottom of this page. Registration will close for the meet no earlier than 8:00 am MDT, Thursday, April 24th. Please update your team roster so that all information is correct. If you do not have an account on RunnerCard, click on the Help link for a list of steps.

Results Sheets - Results will be posted throughout the meet at the link above and on the boards behind the main grandstand.

Awards - The 1st through 3rd place finishers will receive Invitation medals. Awards Ceremonies will be held immediately following each event. The top three teams in the relays receive medals. Please have your athletes be available for the awards ceremonies. The outstanding male and female track and field athlete each day will be recognized with a trophy.

Entry Fees - Meet entry fees are $5 per athlete. Coaches with a UHSAA card will be admitted free. Guests will not be admitted free.

Entry limitations - Each team will be allowed to enter athletes in up to 24 participations per gender, not counting the 3200 meters or the relays. Each athlete may enter in up to 4 events, including relays. Each team is limited to 3 athletes per event. All athletes must have met the qualification standards this season.

Relays - The top 9 relay performances in each classification will be invited into each relay.

3200 Meters - The top 10 athletes in each classification will be invited into the 3200.

Implement Weigh-in - Implement weigh-in will be in the bull pen on Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. After weigh-in, implements will be impounded until the competition.

Track - The BYU track stadium is a world-class facility, constructed with the state-of-the-art Mondo Super X surface. Track radius is 52 meters, providing for short straights and wide turns.

Spikes - Only 9 mm pyramid spikes are allowed. No Christmas trees. No needles.

Check-In - Check-in is required of all athletes. Check-in can take place at any time during the day up until that event is called. Do not be late. Athletes that do not check in will be scratched and will not be allowed to compete. If a competitor in a field event needs to be excused to compete in a running event, permission from the field event judge must be obtained. The competitor shall then have up to 15 minutes to return to the field event, unless the event is a final. The games committee strongly recommends that the athlete competing in the conflicting running and field events use a proxy to check in at the running Bull Pen to obtain hip numbers. When it is time to run, permission from the field event judge is needed to leave the field event competition and compete in their running event.

Spectator Admission - Admission is $5 per person. Children 5 and under are free.

Warm-up - The grass field and track surface to the north of the track are available for warm-up. There will be no warm-up on the track.

Parking - There is no parking available inside the track stadium. Please park in the lots to the west or the south of the football stadium.
