UHSTCA Athletes of the Week, April 1 - 7

Eight more athletes have been selected as this week's athletes of the week.

As the season heats up and we begin to race towards the state meet here are the highlights and our Athletes of the Week:
 

Large School Female Track Athlete of the Week: Courtney Paddock, Sr. Riverton

Courtney ran the 400m. dash in 57.61 at the UVU invitational crushing her competition by almost two seconds. With this performance she also qualified for state by almost two seconds as well putting her in a pretty good position for the medals race. 
 

Large School Male Track Athlete of the week: Parker Landgren Jr. Brighton High School

Parker ran an awesome 22.44 in the 200M on Saturday at the UVU high school invitational which gave him the win. It also is the second fastest 200M time up to this point in the year. Parker also is ranked top five in the 100 meter which makes him a person to watch as the season progresses.
 

Large School Female Field Athlete of the Week: Audrey Muir, Jr. Union High School and Kailey Hansen, Sr. Herriman High School

This week’s Large School Field athlete of the week competition for girls is a tie between Audrey Muir and Kailey Hansen. Both competed in the high jump at the UVU high school invite this past weekend with incredible marks at 5 feet 7 inches. They not only tied for first place but also are tied for first in the state rankings. As the season continues to progress, be sure to watch out for these athletes as they continue to compete head to head!
 

Large School Male Field Athlete of the Week: Grant Evans, Sr. Springville High School

Grant threw a great mark of 52 feet even in the Shotput at the UVU invite this past Saturday bettering his last mark by nearly a foot and a half. He has shown very strong performances throughout the season thus far having the top two marks for the shotput. 
 

Small School Female Track Athlete of the Week: Erica Birk, Sr. North Summit 

With an outstanding time of 5:02.34 for the 1600m. Erica locked up the athlete of the week position by out distancing the field and going on to win the UVU invitational by ten seconds and qualifying for state by over 47 seconds. Along with her 1600 win Erica also ran a 2:16.41 in the 800 meter which not only gave her first place in this meet but also gave her the top mark in the state. She is definitely one to watch for as state approaches. 
 

Small School Male Track Athlete of the week: Macoy Young Sr. Duchesne High School

Macoy ran a great 52.09 400m at the UVU High School invitational. This great time earned him sixth place overall in the 400m. Macoy through the season thus far has continued to show his dominance in the mid-distance events and will be one to watch in the meets to come. 
 

Small School Female Field Athlete of the Meet: Mandee Christensen, Jr.,  Manti High School

Mandee Christensen, a junior from Manti High school took first in the Javelin with a mark of 109 feet, close to her previous record of 113 feet and 1 inch at the Kanab invitational. She is now ranked 3rd in the 2A division and is definitely a threat when it comes to a state title.  
 

Small School Male Field Athlete of the Meet: Justin Johnson, Sr. Green River

Justin Johnson, a senior from Green River High school took first in the Javelin with a mark of 180 feet and 6.25 inches. That pushes him first for the small schools and second for both small and large schools.
