With the season kicking into full gear Utah preps are stepping into full stride hading into the heart of the track & field season. The weather in Utah has made it difficult to truly know how good most of these athletes are in particular in the throwing events. With rain, sleet, snow, and overall frigid elements Utah is still looking for that one good weekend.
Shaye Maurer continued her dominance in the sprints claiming victory in the 200m, 100H, 300H, and Long Jump. The defending state champion is #1 in the state in the 200m, 300 hurdles, and long jump. Other highlights from the meet included an exciting finish in the girls 800 meters with Cedar Aubrey Bryson out leaning Liz Ricks of Snow Canyon 2:21.04 to 2:21.18.
In the boys sprints Tanner Orton of Parowan claimed double victory in the 100m/200m posting impressive 11.19 and 22.49. Rising star Hayden Hawks of Snow Canyon claimed victory in the 3200 meter with a runaway victory in 9:43.20. Hawks is looking to improve upon early season performances in both the distance events. But it was Adam Hine who stole the show with a #6 Nationally ranked high jump of 7-0. Hine know for his Javelin supremacy lept into the nations spotlight with an amazing leap that ranks as the #3 leap in Utah State history.
The moment of the day came from sprint sensation Tyrell Yardley who solidified himself as the top sprinter in the state. Blasting the 100m field with a state leading 10.68 overcoming Davis standout Ryan Avery, Yardley breezed through a 21.93 200m.
Davis distance runner Seth Gutzwiller claimed double victory in the 1600m, 3200m. Tony Hill claimed yet another victory in the shot put with a 52 foot throw.
Other elite marks came from Candace Eddy who broke the meet record in the 1600m with a 5:10.44 victory. She would add the 3200m crown as well at the conclusion of the meet.
