The Davis Super Meet on Tuesday and Wednesday saw a total of 26 MileSplit national elite performances produced between the girls events on day one and boys events on day two. A total of 6 state leading performances for the boys and 8 Utah #1's for the girls.
Syracuse's Tanner Kutterer won boys hurdle races with state best times of 14.80 in the 110 meter hurdles and 39.10 in the 300 meter hurdles. The Syracuse boys featuring Kutterer and Hunter Woodhall also won the 4x400 meter relay in a Utah #1 time of 3:22.14. Woodhall won the open 400 earlier in the meet with a modest time for him at 50.38. The Paralympic star has run as fast 47.63 as the defending state champ in the event.
In the field events, Syracuse also had a star performer with senior Kayden White launching a mark of 169'7" in the discus throw. It was a personal best throw by 11 feet for the defending 6A state champ in the event and early season state leader. White was a runner-up in the shot put by two feet to Herriman's Jeren Krump (55'10").
East High School's Will Prettyman rolled in the sprints taking victories in both the 100 (10.76) and 200 (21.91) meter dash.
Host school Davis enjoyed several event champions over the two days. Their boys won the 4x800 meter relay in a state best time of 8:22, while won of their top distance runners in Camren Todd won the 3200 by 7 seconds in 9:36. In a display of their distance program's depth, Davis had 6 runners break 10 minutes in the race.
Xakari Harry also excelled on his home track at Davis successfully clearing 6'6.75" to win the high jump, which was just off his 6'7" personal best from indoors at the Simplot Games. Harry was a runner-up in the long jump as well at the Davis Super Meet.
The boys 1600 saw a competitive race between Herriman senior Adam Wood and Viemont junior Joshua Leathman with Wood able to pull away for a 1 second margin of victory in 4:23.58, which was only a few tenths of a second off his all-time best.
Bingham's Whitney Rich wasted no time throwing down a fast time this spring in the 3200 as she motored around the track at Davis High School for 8 laps to a Utah #1 ranked time of 10:43.42. Only 4 seconds off her PR from last spring when she claimed the Utah 6A state outdoor. She posted the fast time without much competition as a 45 second buffer existed between herself and first place.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Brittany Cardall of Syracuse was able to get out to a quick start on Ruby Jane Mathewson of Davis. She was able to hold onto first place en route to a state leading time of 44.06 with Mathewson in second with a Utah #2 performance of 44.76.
The Herriman girls certainly have some athletes in the field events with Tori Bailey sweeping the throws at the Davis Super Meet including marks of 39'1" in the shot put and 120'3" in the discus. Meanwhile, teammate Brielle Carr cleared 11'3" to win the pole vault.
Riverton senior Calissa Candelot moved her name to the top of the state leaderboard in the javelin as she threw for a distance of 114'8" and will certainly be seeking to finish much higher than her 13th place state meet finish from last year at season's end.
The Syracuse girls owned the sprint relays with the top times in both the 4x100 at 49.83 and 4x400 at 4:02.01. One of their relay legs in Kayla Rees was the individual winner in the open 400 with a time of 59.79. Meanwhile, host school Davis dominated the other two relays in the 4x800 (10:09.92) and sprint medley relay (4:19.22).
Layton junior Katrina Broadhead was one of the state's top hurdlers indoors and is translating her success this past winter in the 60 hurdles over to the 100 meter hurdles in the spring with a 15.85 clocking at the Davis Super Meet.
26 performances met the MileSplit US Second Team standard.
