Weekend Rundown: Mantz in China, Leaderboard Rewritten in Utah

IAAF World Cross Country Championship

  • Connor Mantz crossed the line in 29th, two places behind Washington's John Dressel. Dressel and Mantz were the top two finishers for Team USA in the Junior Men's race which was won in 23:42 by Yasin Haji of Ethopia.

Pine View Invitational

  • With Day One in the books we already have four state leading times and marks. Kaysha Love recorded state bests in both the 100m and 200m prelims with times of 12.05 and 24.91.
  • Andre James crushed the Shot Put chucking the shot 61-9 to win the meet by nearly 15 feet and climb atop of the State Leaderboard.
  • Both 1600ms were quick with Lucy Biles taking the girls race in 5:00. The depth was incredible in this meet as ten girls were between 5:10 and 5:20. Biles doubled back in the 3200m on Saturyd running 10:59.36. On the guy's side Joshua Collins clocked a state leader winning in 4:16.21 over Garek Bielaczyc. Collins time puts him first in the state so far this season. Collins also completed the double winning the 3200m in 9:24.90.
  • Eden Richards cleared 5-6 in the High Jump to tie the state leading mark.
  • While it's not a state leading time, Ike Urquhart ran a solid 1:55.73 to win in the 800m.

UVU High School Invitational

  • The performance of the meet came from Carlos Salcido of Wyoming who ran 47.83 to defeat Chase Heiner who ran 48.81. Heiner's time topped his previous state best in the 400m. He did the same thing in the 200m, dropping his state leading time by eight one-hundreths of a second running 21.80 for the victory.
  • Lone Peak's Emily Ellis dropped her state leading time in the 400m, running a 56.33 to defeat Annelise Doerr (Fountain Valley, CA).
  • American Fork took home the victory in the SMR as well as the state leading time, crossing the line in 4:16.67.
  • On the boys side, Bingham recorded a new state leader int he SMR, clocking in at 3:36.79.

Copper Hills Invitational

  • Kashley Carter had quite a double, running 5:09 and 11:05 to rack up wins in both races.
  • Alyssa Hirschi dropped her state leading time in the 300mH running 45.56. She also took a victory in the long jump, jumping 18-0.5.
