5. Sammy Signs, Sammy Shines
Rush Henrietta (NY) High senior Sammy Watson may have still been on an emotional high when she stepped to the line at the Victor Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
She certainly benefited from it.
The recent Texas A & M signee and the owner of three individual indoor national records produced two of the best performances in the 800m and 3000m over the outdoor season. On Friday, she dropped a 2:05.71 in the 800m, which was just five-tenths shy of claiming a new US No. 1 time.
Then she followed on Saturday with a US No. 4 performance of 9:50.01 in the 3000m (above) -- an event that's at the higher reachers of her incredible range on the track.
