Eliza Arrington of Lone Peak finished first overall in the 6A Classification at State and had the fastest time of the day being just one of two athletes to break the 18 minute barrier. Eliza has been a bubble athlete on the national rankings for quite some time but as of lately has come alive and been running some of the fastest times of her career. She was injured last season and was able to get back into shape in time for Nike Southwest where she finished 12th overall in the race. She is now a top returner and low stick for her nationally ranked program. She is also surround by other talented teammates who could finish in the top 20 at NXR such as Reagan Gardner and Eliza Mason.
Carlee Hansen of Woods Cross was the second athlete that broke 18 minutes on the State course and she was the 5A Classification State Champion. Hansen and Arrington have been trading blows all season with it coming down to the final meters of a race. Hansen has the speed that very few athletes in the country can match seeing how she was 3rd in the mile at the Brooks PR Invitational running a new personal best of 4:42.86.
Caila Odekirk of Hurricane has had one of the biggest leaps this year and is a rising star in the State. The Sophomore has run 17:44 for 3 miles and was the 4A girls State champion. Caila's confidence is growing with each race she runs in and is seeing that she can hang with the lead pack in big races. Odekirk has won 5 of her 7 races this season!
