Weekend Preview: Nearing the End of Invitationals

There aren't many invitationals left on the 2012 Utah calendar, and this weekend has most of them.

Westlake XC Classic - This one rolls off the start line today. American Fork is coming, but looks to be leaving the varsity runners in civvies for this one. Bingham and Lone Peak are coming, but don't appear to be in rest-the-regulars mode for this one.  Altogether, we're looking at about 18 schools, ranging from very small to very large, at this event.

Park City Invitational - The big one at serious altitude answer's the starter's pistol tomorrow. This one tends to be another mix of larger and smaller schools. Herriman is coming, with the big dogs slated to roll. Skyline, Rock Springs (WY), Timpanogos, and Maple Mountain are among the other big-name programs looking to square off on Friday afternoon. At present, there are over 1100 entires for this one, and that's a lot of people--particularly when you stop to consider parents and such--converging on the community of Park City. All of that soft surface and a little bit of cool air makes for a serious draw, or so it would appear.

Cedar Invitational - The southern Utah schools looking to stay close to home figure to be headed here. I don't have a good source for the entry list for this meet, but if you know southern Utah you can do a lot of that figuring on your own.

Orem Kiwanis - This was a smallish meet last year and Bingham, the winner of both team titles, is headed elsewhere this year. The trend would not seem to indicate a large meet coming up for this year, but we'll wait and see what we get.

As is the case with every week, nice photos from any of these meets are welcome and stand a good likelihood of appearing on these pages. Please send to the e-mail address in the lower left corner of any page of MileSplit Utah.
