Natalie Shields Highlights Remarkable Weekend

For a small handful of Utah's top high school athletes, this weekend brought some closure to a remarkable season.

No performance this weekend, however, was more remarkable than the 10:14.16 two mile posted by East's Natalie Shields. Shields just missed holding off a late charge from local star Wesley Frazier, but still managed to post an absolutely top-tier high school 3200 mark for females, beating her own personal best by about eight seconds. Shields' mile finish wasn't quite as high (fifth), but the 4:52.97 she turned was still an outstanding time.

Also at the meet, Davis's Brayden Cromar ran 15:28.78 for 5000 meters, while teammate Shea Martinez clocked a 2:10.79 for the 800.

Megan and Chrissy Glasmann of Park City both competed in the javelin, throwing 137-9 and 103-6, respectively. Megan's mark was good enough for fourth overall. What makes that all the more remarkable is that Megan was busy throwing the javelin on Friday at the USATF Junior Outdoor championships in Indiana. There she threw 148-5 for fifth. Have javelin, will travel.
