UHSTCA Athletes of the Week, April 22 - 29

UHSTCA Athletes of the Week

May 2, 2012

This week we had incredible marks and times that brought some athletes national recognition. There was a tight competition in many of the events as we selected our athletes of the week, but overall strong performances in the 300 hurdles and Javelin dominated this past week.

Large School Female Track Athlete of the Week: Brenna Porter, Jr. Sky View

Winning her third title of athlete of the week, Brenna ran a new state leading mark in the 300m hurdles in 43.36 beating her old state mark and winning the Davis invite by over one and a half seconds. She is the women to beat at this event and with only sixteen days left until state the question is will anyone catch her in time.

Large School Male Track Athlete of the Week: Cole Lambourne, Sr. Riverton

Cole Lambourne, who also was Athlete of the Week, last week, ran an amazing time of 48.66 seconds in the 400M at the Davis invite this last weekend. His time also bumped him up to number one in state in the 400M. He has proved himself the whole season and will be fun to watch in the next few weeks with the BYU Invite, Region, and State coming up.

Small School Female Track Athlete of the Week: Riley Lyman, Fr. Enterprise

Only a freshman, Riley won her second athlete of the week title by running 46.54 in the 300m hurdles putting her at the number six overall spot in the state. With this time she won the SUU Coliseum Championships and will be using that momentum to carry her into Region and State.

Small School Male Track Athlete of the Week: Ammon Mitchell, Jr. San Juan

Ammon Mitchell ran a great 110M Hurdle race at the Nyle Norris Invite with a time of 15.17 seconds. His mark is the highest of all other 2A times thus far this season. Ammon will definitely have a target on his back in the race to the end of the season.

Female Large School Field Athlete of the Week: Hailey Stevens, So. Grantsville

This week's athlete coming from Grantsville High school is Hailey Stevens with her mark in the high jump, five feet three inches. Stevens is ranked 8th overall, so you can bet that competition will be high at the BYU invitational when she meets her opponents. Her performance this weekend gave her the win at the Tiger Trials invite.

Male Large School Field Athlete of the Week: Miller Crawford, So. Riverton

A usual candidate for receiving the Athlete of the meet, sophomore Miller Crawford of Riverton High school landed himself in first place overall this week with his mark of 160 ft 4 inches in the Discus throw at the Davis invite. As the season comes to a close Crawford will have to continue to bring solid performances if he wants to keep his position as best in the State.

Female Small School Field Athlete of the Week: Anden Lyman, Jr. Enterprise

Once again, the Javelin throw remains supreme. Anden Lyman of Enterprise threw a mark of 121 ft. 5 inches, placing herself in fifth overall. Anden was the Athlete last week as well, so we can expect some great competition at State.

Male Small School Field Athlete of the Week: Justin Johnson, Sr. Green River

Justin Johnson, a senior from Green River High school, placed himself first for the Small schools and fourth overall with his mark in the Javelin of 182 feet. He is right on the tail of previous Athlete of the Week, Sage Palmer. Johnson will definitely be one to watch in these next few meets leading up to state.

Congratulations to all our athletes of the week!
